Trash Dog - Namaste

2009 - Night People

Okay, so this thing was put out earlier this year (Feburary I believe) on good ole Night People. I have been listening to a ton of Trash Dog lately from that Wasted Gift cassette, to their track on that Project Housing compilation, as well as this beauty of a tape and I can’t get enough. Noisy noisy noisy recordings with punk/hardcore-esque thrashing and bashing. As gritty as the Drunkdriver stuff but more shitty; if you’re into Pukers and what not, get this. It’s angry and awesome and DISCONTINUED. Click here to download.

While I’m talking about Night People, I have to give a HUGE recommendation of grabbing that new FNU Ronnies LP out over there. Seriously, go get it right now and email the FNU bros to tour more while you’re at it. Pretty much all I’ve been listening to this week (besides Trash Dog!).

Russian Tsarlag - Community Death Tube

2008 - Night People
Finally..Right? I don’t know if I would say you have to be a Russian Tsarlag fan to appreciate this album or not. It’s definitely not as morbidly “poppy” as some of his other stuff (How many times have I had “Special Leg” in my head for days on end?), but it’s definitely worth a listen. Carlos Gonzalez brings cult lo-fi, primitive goth chants to the next level and this album is proof of it. If you’re going to listen to one track on this bad boy I’d suggest giving the last track “I’ll Walk Through It” a chance; really awesome.  Anyway, get it and enjoy it. I highly recommend supporting this guy all that you can; buy his shit, spread the word, etc. So much potential.

Time to get some rest; massive migraine/dehydration headache & coming down with a severe cold/flu. Sucks! I think I’ll upload some jazz albums this week. Getting my Sun Ra tattoo soon so maybe I’ll upload some gems from the space embassador.  Any requests?

Living out of boxes, moving, traveling, etc. etc. etc. and still trying to maintain a website is pretty difficult. However, I haven’t been doing just nothing! I’m working on a new layout for this site, and it’s going to go in a pretty rapid pace (/slightly different) than before. My hard drive died and the backup I have for my music is on a way smaller hard drive than the one I was using before (1TB > 300MB) so I kind of screwed myself on that one. Hopefully I can recover what’s on there somehow and be even more flexible with posting. Russian Tsarlag next, as requested. LISTENING TO LATELY: Lee Fields & The Expressions, that new Julianna Barwick EP, Tyvek, Mark Fosson.

Soft Shoulder - Collection: 2006-2008

Release the Bats - 2009
The Ginsberg in Space dude requested this so here it is at last. Soft Shoulder is a HEAVY noise punk free-improv band from Tempe, Arizona that is one of the sole reasons Phoenix kids get to see any cool shit whatsoever. This album is being put out sometime this year (I don’t remember by who though SORRY!) and the cover art isn’t done yet but LISTEN TO THIS. If you haven’t heard Soft Shoulder you best at least give these dudes a listen. Click here to download.

I have a few things I want to upload so I’ll do that sometime this week (for real!). I don’t think that new Russian Tsarlag lp (Community Death Tube)  is out on the internet anywhere yet so I’ll throw that up for sure.  The new Wolves in the Throne Room is the shit, go find that somewhere.

Ducktails - II

2008 - Future Sounds
Okay, so this dude was kind enough to send me his tape like four or five months ago to put on this blog and I am FINALLY rummaging through my queue and doing it.  You guys should/probably already know who Ducktails is seeing as how he’s been floating around blogs like crazy lately. He also jammed on that Predator Vision/Sun Araw split so don’t act like this is big news dawg; however, this is super good. Weird psych/surf pop! Simple as it gets. Click here to download.

Law of the Rope sent me their tape in the mail and it’s pretty awesome. Those new James Ferraro cd-rs are out of this world. I just got the multitracks for Bohemian Rhapsody and it’s pretty much the best thing on the planet to mix. Oh and Sublime Frequencies is soon doing a tour (UK & Europe only as of right now but there are rumors about a US tour soon as well) featuring Omar Souleyman and Group Doueh. Check back in two/three days!

2008 - Honest Jon’s

Here is the 3rd of the Honest Jon’s series! Living is HARD. Although this compilation features mostly African-origin folk songs it also spans over a variety of culture-styles from Caribbean and gypsy-esque melodies to minimal tribal vocals/instrumentation. The quality is actually very good for its time (it was recorded in a studio in Wessex) and each song is pretty different. I don’t know, check it out!

Happy New Year, Internet.

2008 - Honest Jon’s

Okay! Sorry for the short delay, but here’s the second of the three Honest Jon’s releases I’m posting. Give Me Love is a fantastic compilation of field recordings from around Iraq that were once stored away in the EMI Hayes Archive. Arabic folk singers and traditional dance music smothered with various styles of sound from around the Middle East. Really cool stuff. Click here to preview.

All righty, one more of these to post and some other goodies.

2008 - Honest Jon’s Records

This is going to be the first of 3 new comps put out by Honest Jon’s I plan on posting. This series is so good I really can’t not post everything. Here’s a collection of recordings from the first half of the 20th century from all around the world that will absolutely blow you away. I can’t express how perfect this comp is; beautiful tones, experimental at times but never straying away to become too improvisational yet still maintaining a melodic form. Like most comps, the majority of artists on here are pretty unknown but there are a few big names like Mighty Sparrow, Joseph Taylor, and Fairuz. There are so many different influences present I don’t see how you couldn’t find something you’d like. I have had that Sam Mayo track, ‘Things Are Worse in Russia’, in my head for weeks. You can support Honest Jon’s here (They still have vinyl in stock!) and preview this here.

Spontaneous Music Ensemble - Karyobin

1968 - Island Records

Here’s a request I got not too long ago. Improvisational free-jazz feauturing Derek Bailey, John Stevens, Kenny Wheeler, Evan Parker, and Dave Holland. Some of the most concentrated free-jazz I’ve heard in my lifetime. This record is pretty far out there as far as normality goes, but even then it still feels like everything is being held together by some unknown force.  Pretty cool ambience, as well. Click here to download.

Can you believe it? I actually updated! I’m sorry it’s been over a month since I’ve actually posted music but it’s hard to maintain a blog with a busy lifestyle. Up next for your ears include a three part Honest Jon’s Records series (Living is Hard, Give Me Love & Sprigs of Time), a Ducktails release, a Soft Shoulder album, and some extra goodies. COME BACK TOMORROW.

I AIN’T DEAD, JUS’ BROKE

13 Nov 2008 In: News

Hey guys, sorry for the SEVERE lack of tunes coming from this end of the internet but I’ve been incredibly busy and haven’t had time sit down and post.KIT’s on tour with Deerhoof right now and they were nice enough to stop by my house and play the livingroom inside of it. IT RULED SO HARD. Next week Wet Hair & Peaking Lights are playing my house and then a week or two after THAT A.H. Kraken is also making noise in my living room! Arizona rules right now.

As far as things to upload goes, I started uploading a lot (a whole lot) of Blue Note jazz stuff from vinyl and will start posting that when I can. Mutant-Sounds posted a ton of ICR tapes recently and I highly suggest checking those out as they are pretty neat. Keep checking back here!
